Panchayat-Level Anti-Drug Public Awareness Programme

As part of Operation Toofan 2.0, jointly implemented by the Kerala Police and the Local Self-Government Department to prevent the spread and use of narcotic substances across the state, an anti-drug public awareness programme titled “Toofan – Local Self-Government – People's Force Against Drugs” was organised at the Kadungalloor Grama Panchayat level. Operation Toofan 2.0 aims to extend anti-drug activities to every ward and household by coordinating the law enforcement mechanisms of the police with the community-based network of local self-government institutions, going beyond law enforcement measures alone.

Programme Objectives and Activities

As part of the programme, Toofan Warrior badges were distributed with the support of the Kerala Police. Student Police Cadets (SPC), students, members of the public and people from various sections of society actively participated in the event. The main objective of the initiative is to strengthen anti-drug prevention activities through extensive awareness campaigns, publicity and continuous local-level monitoring. The programme was organised as part of efforts to strengthen collective action against drugs through public participation at the panchayat level and to move towards the goal of Drug-Free Families – Drug-Free Schools – Drug-Free Wards – Drug-Free Kerala.
